Folk Music from Home :-)
Hi!
The idea of this thread is to travel around our countries by exploring the folk rhythms, history and stories revealed in the music that belongs to our own culture. We usually listen to commercial music such as rock, pop, ballads, etc. But I'm sure we can share a lot about the music that is linked to our country.
I am glad to say Colombian culture is rich in music, dances, colours and history. We have lots of styles from each one of our regions: the Caribbean and Pacific cultures with their lively spirit, the Andean culture which is so sobber, still happy, and many more regions, including the Coffee Region, Llanos Orientales and the Amazon.
Let's get started with this rhythm called the Colombian Gaita, from the Caribbean region.
These dances were performed at informal gatherings by workers in the crop fields long time ago, therefore the elements you see in the video - their tray to collect food, etc. Many of these dances were the way for slaves to get by, in a very similar way to African dances.
The most important ambassadors of the Colombian gaita are Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto, a band who gladly represents Colombia with their main instrument, the Colombian Gaita.
This song is a cumbia, another very representative sort of music from the Caribbean.
I'm really curious to see what you can share from your country. Let's enjoy this piece of culture that our brothers and sisters can offer!

You can move all your body and load it with good vibes. I love dance it!

I agree with you, Carito!!!
While this music is always awesome, there's nothing like listening to it live!!! It just give me chills each time I remember live presentations of folk music, and also live dancing shows of cumbia.
Carito, when can we go to a gig together once more?
