Describe personality
Hello everyone
I had a terrible incident today. I was practicing English with a friend and she told me to describe my personality. I had only very basic words and that angered me.
So I want to propose the following exercise and ask for the teachers' correction:
Let's describe the positive and negative characteristics of our personality, and let's describe someone else. We can complement the description little by little by adding new words. If there are mistakes, let's correct each other. And be polite.
Is the exercise OK, Ana?

Re: Describe personality
Okay, I'll start saying that I consider myself patient, calm. Some times too serius. But other times I feel like joking at evereyone.
Also, I think I'm asertive as I try to see the world from the point of view of my partners

I'm wholeheartedly sorry about the late reply!!!
This is a great thread, GrumpyElf!
And I'm glad you started contributing with your description Jose!
You're correct, I'm afraid most of the times we use a really constrained set of words and, while we do get across our meaning, not having a wider range of words to describe one's characteristics can be quite frustrating.
for instance, let's talk about the expression HAPPY. How many synonyms can you remember for the expression HAPPY?
You can say you're a cheerful, cheery, smiling, blithe, chipper, light-hearted, buoyant, jaunty, sprightly, spry, spirited or lively person, instead of the typical one.
If you're a CALM person, then you can say that you're a pacific, peaceable, peaceful, halcyon, untroubled, tranquil, sober or cool person.
You can also say you're kind of solemn, sober, thoughtful or subdued instead of saying you're SERIOUS, so that you can turn to more words. If you mean you're not that expressive, other possibilities are earnest, grave, humourless, staid, uncomic or weighty.
For your own description of personality, which words would you replace by new words?

Re: Describe personality
Now it is me who apologizes for the late reply... I visit the forum once a month.
Exactly that is what I want, Ana! How can I describe myself without using the typical words. I hate the word happy! But I did not know any other word apart from cheerful to say exactly the same. As you suggested in class, a good thesaurus would work.
because I know this topic is so wide, why dont we start with positive description of personality?
Ana, can you describe your personality?
